23rd April 2025 Round we go again – Streets Whittles celebrates 25 years in West Mersea as it continues with its support of the Round Mersea Island Race Article by:Marketing Firm News Share Copied Share Copied The Round Mersea Island Race will take place on 13th August 2025 with High Water at 15:49 and a height of 5.3m. Organised by the West Mersea Yacht Club (WMYC), entries are welcome from windsurfer race boards, rowing boats (gigs/skiffs), dinghies, kayaks, and catamarans. The Race for the coconut trophy is one circumnavigation of Mersea Island; the full course is over 14 nautical miles. Competitors start anytime between 11:30 and 15:30 and need to decide whether to be a Starboard rounding or Port rounding at registration. Whichever way round they choose, all participants will be required to cross the Strood the causeway which forms part of the main road from Colchester and is covered by water at high tide. Competitors will need to carefully consider how to lift and carry the boat over the road; this is where friends and family can prove very useful! Streets Whittles partner Dan Insley explains why he and his partners are happy to continue support this event: “We are celebrating 25 years of having a presence in West Mersea since 2000. This is a significant milestone and reflects how important the island community is to us. How better to demonstrate our commitment than with the sponsorship of this unique event. It is a wonderful family occasion and an opportunity to celebrate how very privileged we are to live and work in this very beautiful coastal location.” In addition to being lead sponsor of the race for the third year running, Streets Whittles has an on-going sponsorship of one of the racing marks used by the West Mersea Yacht Club (WMYC) for the racing season.
